Applying eye makeup may seem difficult but with the right amount of advice and a couple tries with practice eye makeup is not as complicated as it may seem. The following is a basic tutorial guide that I put together in order to understand how to do eye makeup for beginners…

What should a makeup beginner have (eye makeup)

The following  are some of the products and tools you would need to achieve a basic eye makeup look for beginners:

  • Concealer or primer
  • Eyeshadows neutral tones, cool tones, and warm tones
  • Eyeliners
  • Basic eye makeup brush kit
  • Eyelash curler
  • Mascara
  • False eyelashes + glue
  • Grooming the Eyebrows

What kind of concealer should I use

When it comes to applying concealer on you should always look at applying two shades lighter than your normal skin tone especially around the eye area. The reason being is because it will brighten the eye area depending on the pigmentation of the skin. However, when it comes to color correcting concealers they can work wonders on your skin. Color corrective concealers are usually worn under your normal everyday concealer.

The main purpose of color correcting concealer is so that the color corrector can cancel out any dark pigmentation without it looking as if your just covering the dark area which if you have dark pigmentation under the eye area and try to cover it up it can look ashy.  Depending on the type of pigmentation you have around the eye area certain color correctors can cancel them out.

Peach concealer is ideal for fair skin tones and is good at canceling out anyone with blue veins

Yellow concealer is good for more olive skin tones it’s able to cancel out any purple pigmentation or any color that looks like a bruise

Purple concealer is good for canceling out any yellow pigmentation around the eye area

Orange concealer is good for olive skin tones because it can help cover that dark under eye circles.

How to apply concealer if you have dark pigmentation under your eyes:

  • Step one apply a moisturizing eye cream to hydrate the under eye area
  • Apply appropriate color corrector and blend it out to the areas that have dark pigmentation and need to be brightened
  • Apply skin toned concealer on top of a color corrector
  • Set the eye area with a face powder ( this will help also create a great base for the top lid as well)

By applying concealer to the eye area you automatically start to brighten the eye area. Therefore, this will bring the right attention to your eye makeup and also create a nice base to work with on the top eyelid. What this does is it creates the perfect canvass for you to apply eyeshadows and allows you to blend eyeshadow with ease.  This also keeps the eyeshadow lasting longer all day. I found this technique to work well with those with oily eyelids because the powders absorb most of the oils which also helps to prevent creasing of eyeshadow.

I personally use MAC’s cream-colored base as the concealer and MAC’s Studio Fix Powder to set the concealer.

How do you keep your eyeshadow from coming off

In my opinion, I found that there are a few ways of keeping your eyeshadow on all day. The first way is to apply concealer then apply a base color of eyeshadow on top of the concealer. The base color is usually a color similar to your skin if anything you can use a powdered foundation as a base color.

The second way to really get your eyeshadow to stay on an get the most vibrancy from your eyeshadow is by applying an eyeshadow primer. What this does is it makes your eyeshadow stay on longer all day and you won’t have any creasing.  This usually keeps the eyeshadow vibrant and lasting all day.  The eyeshadow base that I found worked the best for this is Urban decays primer potion.

In fact, they have various formulations that target different concerns regarding anti-aging and color correction. For the purpose of this article, the one that I would suggest every beginner invest in is Urban Decays Primer Potion which goes on nude creating a nice beautiful smooth canvass to work with on the eyelids. This particular primer will allow your eyeshadow to stay on all day.

How do you apply eyeliner

Eyeliner is essential when it comes to eye makeup. It gives the illusion that the eyelashes are thicker and also enhances the eye shape making them stand out. Eyeliner is usually applied on the top and bottom lid or waterline.  There a few different eyeliners to experiment with in order to achieve this type of a look.

How to apply pencil eyeliner

Pencil eyeliner is what I personally started off with when I first applying eyeliner. Pencil eyeliners are exactly what the sound like they typically look like a pencil. The can come in an actual pencil form or a retractable pencil form.  The reason why I liked using a pencil liner as a beginner was because it taught me how to hold the pencil properly which trained my hand to do eyeliner properly with the correct angle.

When applying a pencil eyeliner as a beginner what I personally did was stretch the eyelid slightly with my finger. What this does it allows you to draw a smooth line with the pencil liner across the eyelid. Before drawing a straight line I use to draw three simple dots across the upper eyelid. These dots were used as a grid and were slowly connect. I did this by gently drawing small strokes across the lid and connected these dots. If I wanted the eyeliner thicker I would go over the grid and make the line thicker.  Lastly the bottom lash line or water line I usually look down in the mirror and draw my liner in gentle strokes so I am able to control the intensity of the eyeliner. These are good techniques to try out when first applying pencil eyeliner to the eyelids.

The one that I currently use as a pencil eyeliner is  Estee Lauders Double Wear Stay In Place Eye Pencil. This pencil eyeliner is really pigmented and goes on rich and creamy. Once it settles into the skin it becomes smudge proof and lasts all day. You can also use this type of eyeliner to create a smudged eyeliner look.

How To Apply Gel Eyeliner

Gel Liner- this type of liner usually comes in a small container and needs to be applied with an angled brush. The formulation of gel liner is usually a gel/cream like consistency which gives the illusion of a liquid liner. So if your looking for a liquid liner type of look a gel liner is something to try out.  A gel liner can also be used on the lower lash line and the waterline.

When it comes to eyeliner application this type of eyeliner is best used with an angled brush or a bent angled brush. Again,  I apply it on the top lid by gently stretching the top eyelid a bit and drawing gentle strokes with the brush across the eyelid.  If your brand new to gel liner, you can still use the grid technique in order to achieve that perfect eyeliner look. The great thing about Gel Liner is that if add pressure to the brush while applying it to the eyelid it can control the thickness of my liner. Through practice, this technique will start to become second hand to you.  I personally found when doing a winged eyeliner Gel eyeliner is the easiest way to achieve it especially with the angled brush.

When I apply Gel liner to the lower waterline I usually dip in my pencil liner into the gel liner and then apply it to my waterline. This will give the eyeliner more intensity and pigmentation. When applying gel eyeliner to the bottom lid bring your head down and apply the liner. Gel liners work on the waterline but I found using the angled brush can make it uncomfortable.

The Gel eyeliner that I use all the time is IT Cosmetics  Liner Love in the color Black. This formulation is waterproof once it settles into the skin it doesn’t go anywhere there is no fading or smudging. This formulation works both on the waterline and doesn’t irritate my eyelids in any way.

How To Apply Liquid Eyeliner

Liquid eyeliner is a liner that is a liquid formula it usually has a built-in felt tip or a thin brush.  Liquid liner usually gives the last line the most dramatic line.  The pigmentation is usually really high and nowadays there are various finishes like matte, shimmer and a wet type of look.

With liquid eyeliner, it can be complicated to use when you’re a beginner. My recommendation is to use eyeliner with a felt tip. The felt tip will be like using a pointed marker. Once you’ve practiced enough with the pencil eyeliner the liquid liner applies easily. Just as how I apply the other liners I slightly stretch my eyelid on the outer edge. Next, I draw three dots. The dots will help me keep the liner in line so that there is no mistake in how the eyeliner is applied it works like a grid.  Using gentle strokes I start to connect the dots creating a basic liquid eyeliner look.  Liquid eyeliner cannot be used on the waterline due to its formulation.

The one that I currently use is the Estee Lauder Little Black Liner Thick, Thin, Ultra Fine.  This liquid liner is a two in one eyeliner. It has a thin felt tip one side for precision and for a thinner look and the second side is much thicker and more dramatic look. I enjoy this particular eyeliner because its also waterproof and is a two in one product.

How to apply cake eyeliner

Cake eyeliner- is usually a black eyeshadow.  Which requires an angled brush to apply the product. It can be wet or dry. I personally use it to set my other liners into place. If your looking for more of a natural eyeliner look then this product is best used dry on the eyelid. If you’re looking for more of a dramatic look it can be used with setting spray to create a more intense eyeliner look.

When using cake liner it is best used with an angled brush across the top eyelid this can make the eyelashes seem more naturally thicker without looking like you have eyeliner on.  When I apply this across the upper lash line I gently use small strokes to achieve that natural lash line. I personally use this to set my other eyeliner on the bottom waterline because it keeps my eyeliner in place. 4

The eyeshadow I use as a cake liner is MAC’s eyeshadow in carbon (black eyeshadow). This eyeshadow works well as an eyeliner wet or dry.

How to apply Kajal Eyeliner

Kajal eyeliner- is very similar to a pencil eyeliner. It can be used on the top and bottom lash liner.  Its commonly used on the top waterline and the bottom waterline. The pigmentation of this type of eyeliner is intense and almost creamy.

How do I apply eye makeup with Kajal

Kajal eyeliner- is another form of eyeliner that applies similar to pencil liner but more pigmented. Some kajal eyeliners have organic ingredients such as herbal oils to help soothe the eyes.  Just like the traditional eyeliner kajal is typically used on the upper lash line along with the bottom waterline.  When it comes to more of the Asian cultures I found that this product was used enormously and drawn thicker on the upper and lower lash line.

How do I keep kajal from smudging

Applying kajal liner is the same sort of technique I use when applying my normal eyeliner. I find that this formulation is much creamier and can easily smudge. Therefore, this type of eyeliner is ideal for a smoky eye.  Due to the formulation of this type of eyeliner it needs to be set.  There are two ways of setting this type of eyeliner is by setting it with a black eyeshadow.

I usually set it gently with an angled brush gently so that it can last longer. Another thing to consider to prevent smudging with kajal eyeliner is to use a translucent powder before application of the kajal eyeliner. This automatically absorbs all oils around the eye area.  The oils around our eyes can break down the Kajal eyeliner so it’s important to also control the oils around the eyes and set the Kajal eyeliner in order for it to last longer all day.

How do you apply eyeliner and mascara

No makeup look is complete without mascara.  Mascara not only makes your eyelashes look longer and thicker but also opens up the eyes up.  There are many types of formulas custom made for everyone out there for example:

Lengthening lashes:  when it comes to lengthening the eyelashes I personally found that the two best ways of lengthening the lashes are by applying a mascara that has fibers in its formulation. The fibers usually build at the tips of the lashes creating more length to each individual lash.

Thin lashes:  If you have thin lashes the best way to build volume is by applying a primer. Primers usually are applied before mascara. Not only will a primer make the mascara stay on the eyelashes all day but it will help make the lashes thicker. Once the primer is applied than its good to go in with a mascara that is a bit thicker in its formulation. The brushes for volumizing mascaras usually are a lot thicker in shape.

Straight lashes:  If your lashes are straight you will find that they look limp all the time and won’t really make your eyes look bigger. I found that using an eyelash curler it helped open up my eyes. Most curling mascaras come with a curved mascara wand which helps push the eyelashes upwards.

Once you have determined which mascara is best suited for you the best way to apply mascara is:

  • Curl the eyelashes. To get your eyes to really look bigger curling the eyelashes opens up the eyes. It’s best to use an eyelash curler close to the base of your eyelashes and pump once and then pump two more times going to the mid of your eyelashes to get that curl to develop with the eyelash curler.
  • Apply a primer. A primer will not only add volume to your lashes but it will prevent it from flaking and fading off during the day. The best way to apply a primer is by coating each eyelash starting from the
  • Apply mascara starting from the bottom of the eyelash line and working your way up slowly wiggling the brush to the tip of the eyelashes. This gives the eyelashes a nice even coat. Once the coat has semi-dried go in with a second coat of mascara the same way. This will help build your lashes making them look thicker and longer.

Eyeshadows for beginners

There are four formulations that eyeshadow come in which are powders, crème, pencil, and liquids

Powdered eyeshadows:  are usually loose pigmentation which comes in mattes and shimmers and are powdered form.  Loose pigments are what create pressed pigments. Powdered pigments can best be applied with a damp eyeshadow brush or with your fingers.

Crème eyeshadows: come in different finishes. They usually come in a pot form and the formulations are usually long-lasting and wearing on the eyelids.  Crème eyeshadows usually have great pigmentation and work well with dry skin types. These types of eyeshadows work well with brushes or your fingers when applied.

Pencil shadows:  are usually in a pencil-like packaging.  This makes it convenient to apply eyeshadow on the top and bottom lash line. With most formulation is usually cream like and dries to a powdered finish once it sets.  When blending this type of eyeshadow out you can blend it with your finger or a brush.

Liquid eyeshadows: usually have high pigmentation and usually are shiny and have a metallic finish.  It’s harder to blend these types of eyeshadows because they are mostly applied with precision. Therefore they can be used as an eyeliner on the top and bottom eyelash line.

There are four finishes that eyeshadows have which are mattes, shimmers, satins and frosted.

Matte finish: has no shine and is ideal when doing a natural look.  Matte eyeshadows usually higher in pigmentation.  These types of eyeshadows are good at reshaping and defining the eyes.

Shimmer finish:  Shimmer eyeshadows have a sheen of sparkle to them.  Shimmer eyeshadows have hints of mica in them which apply sheer on the skin giving it a nice sheen.  When using a shimmer eyeshadow it usually can soften a final eye look due to the reflective particles.  Depending on what shades are used for the look shimmer eyeshadows can also help create a dramatic eye makeup look. Lastly, its ideal to use shimmer eyeshadows as a highlighter in the inner corners of the eyes or on the brow bone.

Frost finishes: have a higher shine. Its more reflective and is more pigmented and can cover the skin underneath it.  To get the most of a frosted eyeshadow it can be combined with a setting spray which can give the eyes a bright dramatic pop of color. Are usually not ideal for mature skin types because the shimmer can accentuate the fine lines once it settles in the fine lines.

Satin finish: is usually a mixture of matte eyeshadows and shimmer.  Therefore they are not as shiny as a shimmer eyeshadow but have more shimmer than a matte eyeshadow.  Satin finishes work well on all skin types.

When it comes to purchasing eyeshadows its always good to have a decent selection of eyeshadows to play with. Having different tones really makes a difference because it can help also compliment colors on your skin tone as well.

Neutral  Tones: are colors that are used every day.  They are more your earthy type of tones such as Black, White, and Grey.

The ones that I currently own and use are MACS eyes shadows in

Black- Carbon

Beige- Blanc Type or  Naked Lunch

Browns- Omega and  Expresso

White: Vanilla

A good eyeshadow palette that covers all the neutral shades is one by BH Cosmetics called Studio Pro Ultimate Neutrals 42 Color Shadow Pallete.  This eyeshadow palette has all types of neutral tones pressed pigments from shimmers to mattes. You can create a natural everyday look with this type of an eyeshadow palette.

Warm tones are colors like Reds, Oranges, and Yellows some good examples of these are:

Red: Coopering

Yellow: Goldmine

Orange: Amber Lights

An eyeshadow palette that covers similar colors is one by BH Cosmetics called Solar Flare. This particular palette really covers most of the warm colors out there.

Cool tones- are colors such as Blue, Greens, and Purples. The ones I currently own are MAC’s eyeshadows in:

Blue: Tilt

Green: Steamy

Purple: Smoked Mauve

An eyeshadow palette that covers most of the cool tone colors is another one by BH cosmetics called Studio Pro Ultimate Artistry.

What is a transition shade with an eyeshadow

A transition shade is a color used to blend two colors out. A transition shade is usually a matte finish.  The color that usually is used as a transition shade is an orangey brown shade. Some people use their bronzer as a transition shade.

How to get rid of under eye circles using concealer

When it comes to eye makeup it’s really important to get rid of any dark circles that may be under the eyes. Dark circles under the eyes can draw the wrong attention to your eye makeup. It’s always wise to get a concealer two shades lighter than your foundation only because it will bring brightness to the eye area.

The best thing to do is use color corrective techniques to cancel out any dark pigmentation under the eyes.  Sometimes applying just concealer on top of dark pigmentation may not do the trick in hiding dark circles but instead, it may look more dark and ashy looking. This is where color correction techniques come into place.  Color correctors are used under your concealer to help cancel out and neutralize dark pigmentation. Color correctors can be determined by looking at the opposite direction of a color wheel.

Green color corrector: cancels out redness from around the eye area

Yellow: cancels out blue pigmentation

Orange/peach: cancels out dark brown pigmentation

The simple steps of applying concealer are:

Step 1: apply an eye cream to help get rid of texture on the skin

Step 2: apply the appropriate color corrector for under eye circles

Step 3: apply your concealer on top of the color corrector

Step 4: set the concealer with a powder

This should automatically make the eye area look brighter and instantly more awake.

How to get your eye makeup to last all day

When it comes to your eye make up its really important to use a primer under your eyeshadow.  An eye primer helps the longevity of your eyeshadow and prevents it from flaking off and creasing.  A primer can also brighten the way your eyeshadow applies and blends.  There are three different types of eye primers:

  1. An actual eye primer:  A good example of this would be Urban Decays Primer Potion
  2. Cream eyeshadow: An example of this is MAC’s painterly paint pots or Maybelline 24hour color tattoo
  3. Eyeshadow pencil a great example would be NYX jumbo pencils
  4. Concealer

Primers

An eyeshadow primer like Urban Decays primer potion works well in making the eyeshadow last longer and brings out the vibrancy.  I personally noticed that there was no creasing or fading of eyeshadow during the day and that my eyeshadow stayed in place. This particular primer has so many formulations that suit everyone.  I have connected a small guide as to which one may be most suitable for you.

A Beginners Guide To Eye Makeup

Cream Eyeshadows

Cream eyeshadows are usually applied to the eyelid with your finger or a cream eyeshadow blush. Most of the formulations long wearing and are waterproof. Once a cream eyeshadow has applied an eyeshadow can be put on top to set the cream eyeshadow. There will be more vibrancy and less smudging of the eyeshadow with this method.

A Beginners Guide To Eye Makeup

Eyeshadow Pencil

One of the best eyeshadow bases out there is NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. This particular eyeshadow pencil has different purposes one of them being used as an actual eyeliner the other being as an eyeshadow or an eyeshadow base. When using this type of a product as a base it creates a smooth surface on the eyelid which then allows you to apply your eyeshadows so that it can stick to the eyelid and last longer all day.

A Beginners Guide To Eye Makeup

Concealer

When using concealer as a primer it usually has multiple purposes. One being brightening up the eyelid area ad the other as an actual primer. The best way to use a concealer as a primer is by applying it all over the eyelid and then applying a base color (neutral color). Adding a neutral eyeshadow to the eyelid creates a smooth surface making it easy to blend out. Once the neutral color is all over the lid then its best to apply your eyeshadow.

How do you properly use an eyelash curler

There many articles out there that can misguided people on how to use an actual eyelash curler. The purpose of an eyelash curler is so that the eyelashes curl upwards which opens up the eyes.

Step 1: take your eyelash curler and clamp the lashes closest to the lash line without you pinching the skin. ( for beginners I suggest you get used to the idea of having such a tool near the eye area)

Step 2: once you have gotten the correct clamp to hold the eyelashes in the clamp for about ten seconds

Step 3: slowly work your curl to the outer ends of your lashes in case you didn’t get the ends to curl

Step 4: Apply mascara starting at the roots so that the mascara is holding the curl

What are the best eye makeup brushes

When it comes to eye make up brushes the best set and value I got for my dollar was the Smokey Eye Essential 7 piece brush set. This brush set included 7 brushes that cover all the eye brushes that are essential for a beautiful eye makeup look.

Large Diffusing Tapered Brush: this is a large fluffy brush it blends out eyeshadows on larger surfaces of the eyelid.  This would be good at applying an eyeshadow base all over the lid. This brush is also good at blending out any harsh lines

Small Diffusing Tapered Brush: will give you more precision when it comes to the inner crease of the eyelid.

Tapered Precision Brush: this brush is great at blending eyeshadows in with transition colors or any eyeshadow colors together

Eye Shader Brush: this eyeshadow brush is good at packing eyeshadow all over the eyelid especially the midsection of the eyelid.  This can be used for concealer or any cream eyeshadows.

Smudger Brush: this brush works well at smudging out the under eye makeup its ideal for “smoking out” the tip and bottom lash line.

Bent Liner Brush: is ideal for applying gel liners and cake liners. It has thin short bristles that allow you to draw a thin liner and you slowly build the thickness of the liner with this brush. It’s easy to use and easy to control when using it.

Eye Detailing Brush: has small bristles to where you can add small details to your eye makeup look.  This works great when applying eyeshadow to the upper and bottom lash line. It gives the right amount of precision to work with on those areas of the eyes.

A Beginners Guide To Eye Makeup

Spooli: A spooli is a good tool to have at hand this can help maintain eyebrows and can help separate lashes from clumping if you apply too much mascara.

Brow Comb- Another great tool to have at hand when it comes to eyebrows and eyelashes is a brow comb. Now days brow combs come with double heads one side of the comb resembling an actual comb of a brush. The second being more like a fine tip comb which is more for defining the eyebrows and combing out any clumps of mascara on the eyelashes.

Eyebrows

Eyebrows are essential to maintain. It’s a good idea to get a professional to shape your eyebrows according to your face shape. The reason being is because eyebrows can really frame the way your face looks. It will make a difference if you keep your eyebrows maintained when doing eye make up.  There are several ways to keep your eyebrows maintained and neat.

Trimming

Trimming the eyebrows requires you to first comb up your eyebrow hairs with a Brow Comb and whatever hairs are really long and are passing the natural shape of your eyebrows should be trimmed down. This will start to give the eyebrows more of a defined look.

When doing eye makeup you can also define the brows with eyeshadow or brow by thickening them up and giving them a defined look.

Waxing and Threading

Once you have determined the correct shape of your eyebrows from a professional it’s a good idea to keep your eyebrows maintained. Therefore, hair removal such as threading or waxing the eyebrows every 2- 3 weeks depending on hair growth.  I personally thread my eyebrows every two weeks so I can maintain a good shape and great definition.   This way less makeup and time is spent on the brows if they are properly groomed and maintained.

Brow Gel: Brow Gel can help keep sparse eyebrows in line and defined with the rest of the brow. It’s a good product to have a brow product when doing eye makeup.

Nowadays there is even brow gel that is tinted out on the market. This is usually like a two in one product where you have a gel that helps set the eyebrows and the tint that helps give the eyebrows more of a definition which can give the illusion that the eyebrows are thicker.

If the eyebrows are really sparse then the other trick is to use an eyeshadow the same color as your eyebrows and apply the eyeshadow with an angled brush to gently draw in the eyebrow hairs. The best thing to do afterward is to set the eyeshadow with a brow gel.

A Natural every day look using neutral eyeshadows

A neutral every day look consists of about three to four eyeshadows.

Step 1: apply a primer all over the eyelid such as Urban Decays Primer Potion

Step 2: apply a base color such as MAC’s eyeshadow in Blanc Type all over the eyelid using a Large Diffusing Brush

Step 3:  Apply a shimmery color like MAC’s eyeshadow in Honey Lust all over the center of the eyelid with an Eye Shader Brush

Step 4:  start to define your crease with a matte brown shade to give the eye more depth such as MAC’s Expresso using a Small Diffusing Tapered Brush

Step 5: high light the inner corner of the eyelid and highlight the brow bone with a color like MAC’s Vanilla eyeshadow this step will open up your eyes more and bring the right attention to the eye area.

Step 6: Use a liquid eyeliner or pencil eyeliner to line the upper eyelid and the bottom half of the lash line with a pencil eyeliner.

Step 7:  Set the eyeliner on the bottom lash line with a matte black eyeshadow like Carbon by Mac Cosmetics.

Step 8:  Curl the eyelashes with an Eyelash Curler

Step 9:  Apply two coats of mascara to the top lash line and one coat to the bottom lash line.

Step 10:  Apply Brow Gel to the eyebrows to keep them defined and neat looking

Dramatic eye makeup look step by step for a beginner

When it comes to more of a dramatic eye look it requires more intensity of eyeshadows and eyelashes. The best way to apply a more dramatic look with eyeshadows is by using a mixing medium to intensify an eyeshadow.

Step 1: apply an eye primer all over the eyelid

Step 2:  apply base color all over the eyelid with the Large Diffusing Tapered Brush

Step 3:  define the crease with a dark shade with the Large Diffusing Tapered Brush

Step 4:  use a setting spray and damp your eye shader brush and dip the brush into your favorite pressed pigment. For the purpose of this tutorial, I am using BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Palette which has a  lot pressed pigments that are shimmer shades. With these shimmer shades, they can be used wet or dry to create different looks.

Step 5:  Apply eyeliner to the top eyelid and the outer half of the bottom waterline, groom the eyebrows

How to apply false eyelashes for beginners

False lashes can really polish up any eye makeup look. There are different forms of eyelashes such as single flares and a strip of eyelashes.  It may seem like a mission to learn how to apply them but they are quite simple to apply. The false eyelashes worth trying out are the strips. The best practice with these types of lashes is by taking them out of the packaging and placing them on top of your upper lash line. Eyelash strips can be placed on the bottom lashes but for the purpose of this tutorial I will explain how to apply false eyelashes for beginners

  • Curl your natural eyelashes the reason for this is because when you curl your eyelashes you don’t want your natural lashes pointing downwards instead of blending in with the last strand.
  • Take your mirror and lay it in front of you where you can look downwards. This way you can see what you’re doing when applying false lashes
  • Draw a thin line across the upper lid where the lash line is against your lashes. This will give you an idea as to where to place your lash band.
  • If your lash band is too large for your eyelid trim the eyelashes to fit the width of your eyelid.
  • Apply eyelash glue along the lash band. I personally apply lash glue on the back on my hand and use and use the back end of a makeup brush to apply the lash glue to the lash band. Wait for about a minute so that the glue becomes tacky.  Then apply the lash on top of the eyeliner. Using your finger squeeze the lash band into your natural lashes.  The glue used in this tutorial is the Duo Eyelash Adhesive.
  • Once the glue has dried apply a coat of mascara to your natural lashes plus the lash band. This will blend your natural lashes to your lash band creating one. At this point, you can also go over your eyeliner just to give a smooth finish
