I began to look after my skin at a little later date, only because at the time I was still trying to find what works and what doesn’t, but now I tend to have a little routine that works for me to make my skin glow, I’ve given some tips in this article to hopefully help you out, it’s the same tips that have worked for me and I hope they can work for you too…

What is the cause of my skin looking dull

There are many factors that can cause dull looking skin such as diet, dehydration, smoking, alcohol. It’s important to make sure your skin is clear of toxins that means having a healthy lifestyle (exercising) and diet.  It’s important to hydrate your body with water, water helps hydrate the body and removes toxins out of the body.

One of the factors that could cause dull looking skin is that it hasn’t been exfoliated.  When dead skin cells sit on the surface of our skin it’s hard to see the fresh skin that lays beneath it. It’s really important to have a skin regime in which we exfoliate the skin.  Exfoliating is a process in which we can buff away dead skin cells from the surface of our skin.  We are going to talk about the different ways in which we can make skin glow through skin care regimes and what products can help make our skin look more luminous.

Sometimes when it comes to glowing skin its good to keep our skin hydrated with the recommended glasses of water daily.  Water removes toxins out of our body and keeps our skin hydrated.

Another factor to consider is by taking daily supplements such as Silica.  Silica is a supplement that helps our skin hair and nails.  It stimulates growth through collagen for nice hair, nails, and skin.  It’s worth trying out as it has many positive factors. Its always good to consult a doctor before use.

When I started using Silica I was a bit skeptical as it working, after a month I started to see an improvement in my skin texture, nail and hair growth. With my skin, I found the texture was getting a lot softer and there was less redness coming through. My nail and hair growth was quite rapid as well. This is why I continue the daily use of Silica supplement tablets because it supplies our body with daily nutrients our bodies need on a daily basis that we are lacking.

Vitamin C supplements are also something else to consider. Vitamin C Is known to brighten skin complexion. Vitamin C has many other health benefits such as making our immune system stronger. It’s worth trying this as an alternative to help improve skins complexion.

DIY  Face Masks

For normal to combination skin- Honey can be applied straight on the skin because it’s a natural moisturizer. This will help achieve a moist and satiny dewy look to the skin.  Leave it on the skin for 5-10 mins. For dry skin- You can use honey mixed with some milk. The honey will act as a moisturizer and the milk will help condition the skin due to the enzymes in it.

All skin types: If your skin is extra dry you can try using papaya pulp as a face mask which can help soften dead skin cells. This mask is supposed to be on the skin for about 10 mins.

Skin care and glowing skin:

Exfoliating

Skincare plays an important role as to how the skin looks. It’s important to have an important skin regime during the week. One of the first ways to help skin look brighter is by removing dead skin cells.  Therefore, exfoliating the skin can be a game changer in the appearance of the skin.  The skin should be exfoliated at least twice a week.  As we know vitamin C can help brighten up the skin.

I found that an exfoliator like  The Body Shops Vitamin C  Boosting Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Face Scrub helps remove dead skin cells with its garnet stones. The texture of this exfoliator is finely grained with a cream-like texture helps remove dead skin cells and condition the skin leaving it looking more brighter. The moisturizing properties contain Amazon Camu Camu which is high in vitamin C that helps protects the skin from any further environmental damages.

Another way to exfoliate dry skin cells off your face is by using a facial buffer. The one that I currently use is by The Body Shop. The facial buffer is a gentle buffer that removes dead skins off the face.  Products such as this one would usually require a cleanser suitable for your skin type to be used with the facial buffer.   The facial buffer has a texture which would help scrub away dead skin cells and help polish the surface of the skin. The facial buffer can be used on a daily basis because it’s usually gentle with the skin.

Serums

When I was younger the one line that stuck to me with The Body Shop was the Vitamin C Line because of all the promising benefits the line offered for my skin.  The Vitamin C Boost  Instant Smoother Serum.   This product could be used by itself or a moisturizer on top. I found that I would use this product directly on areas of the skin that needed more moisture.  This particular serum leaves a velvet feel.  Serums are usually great to use on the skin because it helps your moisturizer sink the top layer of your skin.

Moisturizing

The next important step is to maintain the moisture in your skin by applying the correct moisture for your skin type.  The serum that you wear should help the moisturizer sink into your skin leaving it smooth and hydrated all day.  (it’s very important to go with a moisturizer for your specific skin type so that the correct amount of moisture is delivered to your skin. The Body Shops Vitamin C Glow-Boosting Moisturizer is a great moisturizer that moisturizes the skin and gives it a dewy finish.

Face masks

Face masks are something that should be done at least once a week to the skin on the face. It does make a difference in how the appearance of the skin. It detoxifies the skin of any residue of makeup and deep cleans the pores. When I personally do a face mask  I found that my skin looks instantly cleaner and fresher and has a natural glow. Depending on the type of face mask you apply face masks usually exfoliate, hydrate, deep clean and moisturize the skin.   For extra hydration, I usually put on a moisturizer afterword’s so that my skin stays supple overnight and usually in the morning I can still see that my skin still looks brighter.  It’s always good to find a face mask that is suitable for your skin type so that you can see results.

How to make your skin glow with make up

Now that we have covered skin care products that can give your skin a natural glow we can look at makeup products.  There are many makeup products out there on the market that can make your skin glow. It’s a matter of educating yourself as to what product does what.

Many of the products have illuminizers that range from mild to very pigmented in certain products.

There are a few moisturizers on the market that have illuminzers in them to make your skin glow instantly. These types of products give the skin a dewy hydrated look and cancel out the dull looking color.  A good example of this is Mac’s strobe creams which work well underneath makeup.  Such strobing creams can be worn on top of the foundation because the reflective particles in the cream give the skin a  nice natural glow and instantly brightens the skin.

Lustre drops are usually a high liquid highlighter. Usually, these types of products are used as an actual high lighter on the face or you could mix one or two drops of this type of product with your foundation. When you add lustre drops to any foundation you will find your foundation will give you a slight glow making your skin look hydrated and glowing.

Luminous primers are usually worn under the foundation. With luminous primers, I found that it goes on the face shimmery but once you apply the foundation on top of the primer your foundation will last longer and your skin will start to look more luminous.  A natural sheen will be given to the skin. Luminous primers are usually good for dull and dried looking skin.

Foundations with luminosity are another way of having glowing skin. I currently use IT Cosmetics CC Cream Illumination which is a liquid foundation. This honestly gives my skin a beautiful glow when applied with a Beauty Blender.  It makes skin look more hydrated and gives the face a lite from within type of look.  I found that foundations that are mineralized have an illumination factor that can help brighten the skin and bring luminosity to the skin giving it a nice finish without looking too glittery this effect is also known as strobing.

Face powders with luminosity are a usually powdered foundation that has illuminating particles in them. These types of powders can be either alone or on top of foundation to set them. I usually use small dust of this to have that bit of glow in my face when I am on the go. It’s a quick fixer-upper.

Highlighters are the most common glowing type of product on the market today. Highlighting is a way to bring out your facial features by placing a highlighting product on your face where the natural lighting would hit.  This technique is known to enhance features, its very popular in the beauty community today. It can really make a difference in how your skin looks in pictures. There are three types of high lighter liquid, cream, and powders.

Liquid highlighters are highlighters that are highly pigmented in a liquid form. This is the type of highlighter that can be mixed in with your foundation to make it more luminous.  These highly pigmented highlighters

Cream highlighters are usually highlighters that are in a cream form. They work well if you press it into the skin and melt into the skin beautifully. These kinds of high ligers are better suited for dry skin

Powder highlights are the most common type of highlighters. Powder highlighters glide on easily with any powdered foundation or foundations that have been set with powder.  With powdered highlighters, they can be a buildable product depending on how much intensity of highlight you want.  Powdered highlighters can be used wet with a setting spray for the most kind of intensity. Lastly, they have multiple purposes uses such as being used as a  highlighter.

The very last step in makeup is setting your make up with a setting spray. Certain setting sprays have a dewy finish to help set your makeup all day to make it seem like you have a glow. Some of these setting sprays use small pigmented particles to give off that glowing look that lasts all day with your make up. Setting sprays that promise a dewy look can also make your make up look less cakey.

10 Tips for Glowing Skin

Drinking Water

When it comes to your skin it’s really important to keep hydrated. The reason being is because water detoxifies the body and removes any toxins out of the body and keeps it hydrated. Therefore, it naturally makes our skin look clearer and changes the texture of our skin.

Vitamins

Our body needs certain vitamins to keep our skin glowing naturally. We can get these vitamins through eating correctly like the right fruits and vegetables. For example, vitamin C is known to brighten the skin and this can be found in citrus fruits like lemons, grapefruits, and oranges and in vegetables, it can be found in tomatoes, broccoli, and peppers.  A supplement that can be taken is silica which is known to help our bodies release minerals that help our nails, hair, and skin look to become more healthy. It also helps our skin build collagen which prevents wrinkles.  If considering taking supplements its always good to be advised by your doctor.

Exfoliating

Part of glowing skin requires skin care regimes and treatments. Regularly exfoliating the skin removes dead skin cells off the surface of our skin. When there is a build up of dried skin it can make our skin look dull and ashy. If the skin is not regularly exfoliated the texture of the skin can look rough and would be hard to apply moisturizer to it.  It’s always a good idea to exfoliate our face at least twice a week so we can buff away dead skin cells and create a nice smooth surface on our skin.

Moisturizing

Our skin needs daily moisturization in order to stay hydrated. If we don’t moisturize our skin daily dry skin begins to form. When dry skin forms it creates a fine line which then becomes wrinkles.  Therefore, daily moisturization with a good skin regime is ideal in order for the skin to be glowing naturally.  A good skin care regime with great moisturization would be with a cleanser, toner, serum and a daily moisturizer. All four of these steps make a difference in how the moisturizer sinks into the skin.

Primers

When applying foundation we always want to make sure our foundation goes on smoothly and lasts all day. There are a few primers on the market that have luminosity particles in then that help make your foundation stay on longer and bring out a glow in your skin. Sometimes these primers live a nice finish to a foundation and its application.

Foundations

A lot of the foundations on the market today have pigmentation with reflective particles. These reflective particles give the skin a glowing effect. It instantly makes the skin look like it is hydrated and usually gives it a beautiful sheen.  These foundations come in powder and liquid form and sometimes the reflective particles reflect off the skin giving you an instant glow.

Highlighters

The highlighter is one of the most common ways to make your skin glow instantly with highly reflective pigments. The concept of highlighters is to make sure you place it on the skin where natural lighting would hit, this usually brings our features more forward through reflective pigmentation. Highlighters usually come in a liquid, cream and powder form.  When applied correctly this can easily make our skin look beautiful and glowing.

Strobing

Strobing is known to accentuate where our skin naturally has light hitting on it such as the temples, cheekbones and cupids bow. This process requires no contouring and just more so on highlighting the high points on our face. This requires concealer that is two shades lighter than our normal skin tone which will help brighten certain areas of our face, a setting powder to set the makeup and a highlighter for a glowing finish.

Weekly face masks

Face masks can make a difference in our skins natural complexion. Face masks usually detoxify the skin and brings up the skins the dirt and oils sitting on the surface of the skin that sometimes a cleanser cannot remove. This process makes a difference in the texture of our skin and most face masks usually exfoliate the skin leaving a smooth surface with a soft moisturizing finish with a natural glow.

Setting Sprays

When it comes to the last step of make up a setting spray can also determine the longevity of our makeup and the look of our make up. Many setting sprays on the market have a dewy finish to them and have a few reflective particles within them.

These setting sprays can give a glowing and dewy finish to our make up making our skin look more fresh and glowing.  The setting spray that I tend to use is the MAC prep and prime fix plus finish, this can give the overall look a dewy finish.
